1-ELDER

Roll of Excellence 

 

Kiana and Yakshavi - For being more confident with their work. 

 

In Art, Elder class has been working on creating landscapes with oil pastels. They needed to remember not to touch their hand on the paper and to colour in one direction.

Year 1 Elder made stick, shadow puppets to retell the story of Hanukkah.

For Science, the children’s bean plant has been growing and they have been keeping a diary of how the changes happen over time.

Elder class enjoyed STEM week. They built bridges, made alternative plastic spoons, made tangrams and participated in various activities outside.

For Art, the children have been developing their skills of cutting and sticking. They made excellent pictures of different landscapes using shapes. The children were taught how to cut by moving the paper and to stick by gluing the edges. Please encourage this at home as well.

Elder class worked in pairs to create a digital story using a multi-media software on the internet. They were creative when creating a picture and resilient in developing their typing skills.

This week Elder class have been learning how to find a quarter of a number by using concrete resources and doing it pictorially.

Year 1 Elder have been writing their own traditional tale. They changed the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff to The Three Cheeky Monkeys. Below an example has been provided.

Elder class were able to meet the chicks. They enjoyed holding and stroking the chicks.

This week has been a fun and an exciting week. Elder class were learning about Tanzania for International Week of Happiness. This relates to Rights Respecting Article 30 - Every child has the right to their culture, language and religion. The children wrote a report about UK and Tanzania. Also, they did Tinga Tinga Art, which they all loved doing.

This week in Maths, we have been exploring length and height. The children were comparing the length and height of different objects. Then the children enjoyed measuring their height and comparing heights with other children. We found out that many children were of similar height.

Year 1 Elder having been working hard to do their Nativity performance. By Thursday 17th December 2020, the Nativity production will be available to watch for parents on Google Classroom. The children are so excited for their parents to watch their production.

The children have been very focused and engaged in their learning. Here you see them in our PHSE lesson thinking and drawing about their wants and needs. The children have learnt the difference between the two.

In Forest School, the children enjoyed learning about different habitats, making bird feeders and making their own waterproof houses for their little dolls

Year 1 Elder had a virtual lesson of French with Mrs Parekh. They concentrated and listened so well to her instructions. Elder class learnt how to say “My name is” in French.

This week Elder class have enjoyed book week by participating in a Drama workshop and writing their own comic story about Snail and the Whale. Keep up the excellent learning Elder Class!

Year 1 Elder enjoyed their first session of Forest School. They were learning to follow the rules of Woodlands Adventure through various activities. Also, they made their own passports to the Woodland. We are already looking forward to our second session!

This week Elder class are enhancing their writing by learning how to use adjectives.

This week, Elder class learnt about number bonds for addition by using concrete resources.

This week, Elder class explored maps by using Google Earth and understood the concept of ‘birds eye view’.
