This week, Year 1 have been learning about Religious special days and especially the Jewish special day of Shabbat.
This week , for RE week, Year 1 made puppets and performed a shadow puppet show.
It has the best week we’ve had so far. The children really enjoyed all the various activities and also learnt a lot in Science,Technology, Engineering and Maths.
This week, in preparation of our cooking lesson next week, we practised cutting and chopping play dough.
This week we have learnt how to find the quarters of numbers practically.
In Year 1 we have started learning about gardens and forests. Here the children are seen discussing and sorting pictures of Gardens and Forests.
Year 1 have been learning about Capacity this week. We learned how to measure the volume in millilitres.
In Science we are learning about Plants. We counted the different kinds of plants we found in our School grounds
Learning during International Week has been very interesting. In Geography, we compared the UK with Tanzania.
ear 1 have been have been learning about the United Kingdom. We looked at an Atlas to find out more.
This week, Year 1 had a special visit from the Police. The officer told us all about Anti bullying. the children had an opportunity to ask a lot of questions.
This week we investigated which materials were waterproof.
This week in Maths we are learning about numbers to twenty. We made the numbers using dienes.
In Maths we have been using manipulatives to represent different numbers.
What an exciting and busy week we’ve had! We had our Diwali celebrations and the first session of Forest School. Also, we have been learning about Poetry and had a go at performing it in groups. Here’s a clip of our ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’ practice.
This week Year 1 went for our Autumn walk which was great fun. The children learnt to observe as scientists. We found chestnuts and mushrooms and learnt why leaves change colour in Autumn.
We used our drama skills to role play ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’. The children then performed in front of the class in their groups.
This half term we have been looking at 'Materials'. We investigated which material is best to make a spoon: paper, plastic or metal.
