For our final trip in Year 5, we visited Kew Gardens following our study of plants in Science. We were in wonder at the incredible number of of plants from all over the world and learned about their special features. So lucky to have such an amazing place at our doorstep!

Another brilliant STEM Week at Newton Farm! This year's theme was Connections: transport and vehicles. We had lots of activities to help us understand the theory of motion. It really helped to think practically about Science.

We were very busy this week in the build up to the Coronation of King Charles III. We learnt about the 1000 year old rituals, wrote our reflections, baked scones for our tea party and played traditional games where we tested our general knowledge. Great to be part of such a historic event.

We had the fantastic opportunity to visit Lords Cricket Ground - to not only watch a live cricket match but also practise our batting and bowling skills. What a privilege!

We really enjoyed our annual International Day Showcase, there was so much variety! Our focus country was Argentina - we had so much fun learning about their delicious food, culture, the tango and of course football!

Our budding politicians and future world leaders had an inspirational day this week in Parliament, the heart of UK politics. We were treated to a tour of the House of Commons where we watched a live debate and then had a workshop where we learned how to debate and pass laws. A great experience!

In celebration of World Book Day, the children came to school dressed as their favourite book characters. What an assortment!

As part of our Geography topic on Brazil and South America, we have been looking at maps and atlases to find countries and capital cities in this continent. We then explored the Amazon basin using virtual reality headsets.

As part of our topic Mind Body and Soul in PHSE, we have been learning about the various types of eating disorders. We used our teamwork and presentation skills to share our ideas.

For Mental Health Week, we read the book ‘Have You Filled Your Bucket Today?’ We then spent time with Year 1 Oak and filled each other’s bucket with kindness by playing, reading, drawing and singing together!

We really enjoyed decorating our Christmas tree in our Hall this week. Every child in the School had a bauble to hang on the tree and the gymnastic benches came in handy to reach the very top!

We had a wonderful trip to Central London to watch the West End musical, the Lion King. The costumes and set designs were amazing and we loved all the songs which seemed to fit so well with every scene. We also wrote a theatre review about this fantastic experience.

As part of our study of Sikhism, we visited a local Gurudwara (Sikh temple). It was fascinating to go into the kitchen to see how the food is prepared daily and a privilege to join in the langar afterwards.

For Black History Month this year, we learned some poems by Black British poets such as Benjamin Zephaniah, John Agard and James Berry. We then created our own acrostic poems and name plates and baked some West African Lime Cake. It was so delicious!

This week we have been testing our theory about rotation and how the Earth (and other planets) orbits the Sun whilst spinning! We simulated this in the classroom using a torch and globe.

This week we visited Warner Bros Harry Potter Studios to support our study of Harry Potter in English. It was amazing to experience so many key scenes in the book first hand!

This week we held elections for the School Council. Well done to Majed, Omar, Linojan and Sienna for great presentations.
