Roll of excellence

This week, we looked at the life cycle of a butterfly. Our caterpillars are now in their chrysalis. We also had RE week in the nursery and the children dressed up in their traditional clothes. We used playdough to make different faith symbols.

This week we continue to learn about minibeast and looking mainly at worms. We looked at why worms are important and what they do. We made a wormery by putting moist newspaper at the bottom of the box and followed by a layer of sand and compost. We covered our wormery with a lid and made sure it had holes for the worms to be able to breath. All the children took part in the making of our wormery. We are now going to observe how the worms break down the dead leaves, potato peels into rich soil. We also used shapes to make different minibeasts. We also received our caterpillars and next week we will be learning about the life cycle of a butterfly.

This week we have been learning about minibeast. We went on a minibeast hunt and we found many minibeasts, spiders, woodlouse, bees, flies, ladybird. We then drew what minibeast we found. We had lots of fun learning about minibeasts!

This week we have been learning about planting and Eid. We planted our magic beans. We used legos to make the castle and beanstalk from the story of Jack and the beanstalk. We also celebrated Eid in the nursery by cooking a very special desert called sweet vermicelli (seviyan). It was so delicious! Eid Mubarak!

This week,we started learning about planting and the story of Jack and the beanstalk, We learnt about what do plants need to grow and investigated by using magnifying glasses learning about the different parts of the plant. We also used blocks to make a very tall beanstalk. We also learnt about Ramadan and Eid and made Eid cards.

This week, we have been learning about the life cycle of a chick. It was so exciting, we were able to see the eggs hatch! We read and acted out the story of the Little Red Hen. We also got to hold the chicks, give them food and water.

For international week, we have been learning about Mauritius. We looked at where Mauritius is on the map of the world. We painted the Mauritian flag. We coloured in the dodo, which is a bird that is now extinct. The children decorated their sandcastle. Most exciting of all, we made my favourite food, Biryani!!! We learnt about the different spices that go in a biryani. We ate the biryani, it was so delicious!!!

This week, we have been looking at dinosaurs and shapes. We went on a shape hunt on the playground. We found lots of shapes, circle, triangle, rectangle, diamond, star. We made a volcano experiment, to show and explain one of the possibilities how the dinosaurs got extinct. On Friday, we made dinosaurs fossil biscuits. What a fun week of learning!

This week, we have been learning about dinosaurs. We pretended to be paleontologists looking for dinosaurs bones. We read and acted the story of Bumpus Jumpus Dinosaurumpus. For Book Week, we had a fairy tale workshop and dressed up as animal characters. What a fun week!

For Halloween this week, we made a magic potion using different ingredients and with some magic we made our magic potion. It was so fun! We cut a pumpkin and see what was inside and pretended to make pumpkin soup. We also celebrated Diwali by making rangoli patterns using different coloured sand and all the children dressed up in their traditional clothes. Next week, we will be learning about dinosaurs.

1. Aaira, excellent playing in our doctor's surgery role play. 

2. Kai, for explaining his home learning very well. 

3. Ransh and Rameen, for being able to explain about people who help us. 

This week we have been learning about ‘People who help us’. We learnt about police officers, paramedics and builders. We changed our role play to a doctor's surgery. We also had the visit of a police officer (it was really Miss Choksi!). The police officer helped us investigate a ‘mystery’ in the nursery.
